Description:
Recorded during the Rubber Soul sessions, “Day Tripper” and “We Can Work It Out” were released as a standalone single rather than being included on the album.
This fascinating work tape captures John Lennon and Paul McCartney developing “We Can Work It Out” together at John’s home, Kenwood, in Weybridge, Surrey. Originally inspired by an “old folk song” John had written the previous month, the session reveals the pair at their most playful, with plenty of laughter and spontaneous moments. As John later put it, “We were blasting” — a reflection of the energy and volume being captured on tape.
Interestingly, the song’s iconic riff had yet to emerge at this stage. The finished version was completed during an intensive eight-hour studio session, making this recording a remarkable glimpse into the Beatles’ songwriting process — and the creativity, humour and friendship John and Paul brought to their work together.
